A Unique Organization to Serve Your Needs
Catholic Mutual Group understands the unique needs of the Church organizations we serve. Initially founded as a membership association, The Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America was incorporated as a Nebraska non-profit religious corporation in 1896. We're a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization, with no stockholders or profit motive. Our Board of Trustees consists of two Cardinals and 23 Archbishops and Bishops. Membership in Catholic Mutual Group is limited to those Catholic Church entities listed in or eligible to be listed in the Official Catholic Directory (OCD). As part of the Catholic Church, Catholic Mutual Group is itself listed in the OCD.
Catholic Mutual Group is the registered trade name for The Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America and has been used for business purposes since the 1980's.
Catholic Mutual Group is not an insurance company. It is not licensed as an insurance company in any state. It neither employs nor pays commissions to outside agents or brokers. Catholic Mutual Group is a self-insurance fund of the Catholic Church in North America. With the exception of Nebraska (its state of incorporation), in every state in which it operates it has received authorization to function as a general purpose corporation from the Secretary of State of each respective state.
