Employee Benefits Buying Alliance

As the continued leader in coverages for the Catholic Church, Catholic Mutual Group recognized the importance of providing employee benefits services. Group insurance benefits such as health, life, long term disability, short-term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment have become a traditional and expected part of an employer's total compensation package. A competitive compensation package allows employers to attract and retain quality employees. It is no different for the Catholic Church.

As health care costs continued to escalate and, in some cases become virtually unavailable at any price, the member bishops requested that Catholic Mutual Group develop a nationwide plan for the Church. In response to their requests, Catholic Mutual Group has developed the Employee Benefit Buying Alliance.

The Employee Benefit Buying Alliance brings together church organizations to form an employee benefit-purchasing group. With large numbers, a group can attain significant discounts and multiple year rate guarantees from the insurance carriers.

To administer these important functions, Catholic Mutual Group utilizes its affiliate, CMG Agency, Inc. CMG Agency, Inc. manages the CatholicMutual Group Employee Benefit Buying Alliance and acts as a broker/consultant for the alliance members. Benefits specialists at CMG Agency, Inc. can provide the most up to date information on employee benefits plans.

Advantages of Participating in the Employee Benefit Buying Alliance (EBBA)

  • Lower Commissions/Fees - CMG Agency commissions/fees typically significantly lower than those of comparable brokers/consultants
  • Competent Management and Staff – all members of our staff either have a professional designation or are pursuing one. In addition, we have six (6) licensed consultants with varying areas of expertise available at any time.
  • Honesty and Integrity – if we review your benefit programs and cannot offer any assistance, we will tell you so and not charge for the review. Although we would like to be able to assist in every situation, there have been some rare occasions where we are unable to squeeze anything further out of existing programs. In such cases, Catholic Mutual continues to fund the time and travel related to such reviews without requesting or expecting any reimbursement from an interested diocese or archdiocese
  • Opportunity to Share Data – as with some of the comparisons of the data that we have compiled in our growing database, we hope to be a catalyst in assisting our clients to share helpful information between dioceses without compromising the privacy of any without prior approval.
  • Never a One Size Fits All Approach – although our experience with Catholic entities is second to none, we recognize that each still may have its own requirements and nuances. As such, all benefit plans are unique and clients are welcome to purchase any one or all of the coverage lines that we access through the EBBA (Employee Benefit Buying Alliance).
  • Significant Savings – because of the interest that has been generated since its inception in 1999, the EBBA can document savings to its participating members in excess of $103,000,000 on all lines of coverage in its first 10 years of existence.
